Indonesia 2001

After 2 weeks travelling through Malaysia and Singapore, Marc, Feli and me went to Indonesia for another 2 weeks of travelling. We got a plane to Bali and then the next day from there to Lombok.

We relaxed on the beaches of the Gili Islands, went to the rice fields of Inner Lombok and did a round trip through Bali with a cool rented Jeep. At the time we enjoyed our holiday, on the Indonesian island of Kalimantan incredibly brute fighting started with leaving thousands murdered in the cruelest possible way. We didn't learned to know it until coming back to Korea.

Indonesia is like a patchwork of different races, tribes and religions. Moreover most but some islands are totally undevelopped and poor so that conflicts arise everywhere with an unthinkable brutality. It is shocking to know that this happens in an surrounding that is a paradise for most of us Western people. Indonesia's government has no control over its remote islands and sometimes not even control over its own capital.

Well, if you just go to tourist islands like Bali and Lombok you will be safe as long as you stay in developped areas. If you travel individually on other islands, it's up to your behaviour. Just think about that people earn less than the value of your camera a year, so crime is just a step apart, if you're luring it.
